Parks & Rec suspends use of town fields

The York Parks & Recreation department announced on Tuesday that there will be no practices or games played on the town fields until further notice due to the heavy rains. They estimated that the earliest availability would be at least a couple of days after the rain ends. Parks & Rec staff expected that the Bog Road multi purpose fields will come back quickly as they drain well. The Bog Road Baseball field will have some warning track issues once staff can work on it. The VES Softball field will need some work and will probably be out of commission longer as it doesn't drain as well. The baseball field at VES is in better shape. Smith and Beach fields are expected be usable once they dry out. The High School Softball field appears to be in the worst shape of all.

Parks & Rec will be looking for volunteers to help out at the Bog Road Baseball Field when it stops raining. The warning track needs to be filled in and the base paths and home plate need to have turface put down and hand raked in. Parks & Rec will have the turface available in the garage at the concession stand. Those with questions or who are interested in helping with the cleanup can contact Sarah Francke of Parks & Rec at @363-1040.
