Library Happenings

YORK - The week ahead promises an array of York Public Library events.

Tonight, Wednesday, May 24, the library will take its York Reads program on the road. Stop by York High School at 7 p.m. to join local author and historian Neil Rolde for a discussion on the history of labor issues in Maine in conjunction with the townwide reading of Ernie's Ark. This is the final scheduled York Reads event for 2006.

Then, on Thursday, May 25, come back to the library for a special event.

At 7 p.m. parents and their children between the ages of seven and nine can enjoy a free sign language hosted by local resident Lynette Olsen of "Tiny Hands Talking."

Olsen will focus on reading skills, music, hands-on activities and children's literature - all through the world of sign language.

Children and adults will have the opportunity to work together in a positive and fun learning environment while discovering the joys and benefits of a second language.

Space is limited, so call the York Public Library to see if there is room available for the Tiny Hands Talking event. Call Kathleen Whalin at 363-2818 as pre-registration is required.

There is a lot more to come at the library in the month of June. To find out what's on the way, check Library Happenings each week and visit www.york.lib.me.us.
