Local martial arts students were among those who took top honors in the 2006 World Martial Arts Federation spring tournament in Roxbury, Mass. Over 70 schools participated in the event. The local students are, from left, Dominique Ginusz of Eliot, Tyler Kawczynski of York, Mary Joe Cooper of Kittery, pictured with local Master Robert Denault, 5th Degree Black Belt and owner of Defense Tactic Systems. Cooper received second-place in Sparring and in Si form, Kawczynski received second-place in Open Hand forms, Ginusz received second-place in Sparring. Last Wednesday, May 17, the York Lady Wildcats (3-6) took a two hour ride to Fryeburg to play a "home game". Last Saturday, at the early hour of 9:30 a.m., the York Lady Wildcats (3-7) got off the bus at Wells (9-2) but suffered from the first inning blues as they made three errors that led to five unearned runs

Last Wednesday, after seemingly 40 days and 40 nights of steady rain, York Head Coach Gordon Lewis loaded his hungry team of Wildcats, two by two, to find higher ground and played a "home game" at Fryeburg Academy Last Saturday morning, at Wells, in a make up of a rain out, the York Wildcats (7-3) rallied behind their freshman pitcher, Jimmy Kennedy, to down the Wells Warriors 8-4
