Wildcats upset Warriors 8-4
By Stan Ross
Last Saturday morning, at Wells, in a make up of a rain out, the York Wildcats (7-3) rallied behind their freshman pitcher, Jimmy Kennedy, to down the Wells Warriors 8-4. Kennedy retired the side in order in the first inning but then ran into some unexpected control problems in the second when he gave up four runs on four walks, one hit batter and two hits. York second baseman, David Nieves, gunned a strike to catcher Kevin Maran who slapped a quick tag on a shocked Warrior runner for the second out of the inning. Kennedy struck out Wells clean up hitter Nick Laude for the third out and left the bases loaded. Kennedy then retired 15 batters in a row before one Warrior reached on York's only error in the seventh.Meanwhile York picked up a single run in the first on a walk to Matt Prewitt and an RBI single to center by Kevin Maran. The Wildcats added two more in the third on a first pitch line drive to left by Prewitt followed by another first pitch liner by Jared Turner. Then Kevin Maran drove in Prewitt on a fielders choice and Dan Graziano used his speed to beat out an infield hit and drive in Turner. York was trailing 4-3 going into the fifth when Jeff Cole lined a single to center and Ryan Mac Glashing followed with a liner to left center. Nick Richard followed with a RBI fielders choice and reached on an error and David Nieves reached the same way. Then Turner drove in two more runs to give York a 7-3 lead. Jeff Cole scored the final Wildcat run when he raced around from first to score on a double to left by MacGlashing.
