This year's Ogunquit Chamber Music Festival will feature the Ambrosia Trio of New York City, The Boston Chamber Music Society, the DaPonte String Quartet and the Cassatt String Quartet plus two - pianist Adrienne Kim and clarinetist Derek Bermel.
When Ogunquit Performing Arts Chairman Stuart Nudelman was asked if there were any common threads that connect these different groups, he replied, "Yes, they are all comprised of musicians of international quality with national reputations that are as good as it gets in New England."
The ensembles will perform varied programs that range from Mozart to Shostakovich and several award-winning composers will be in attendance at the concert to introduce and discuss their major contemporary pieces.
The DaPonte and Cassatt ensembles will be heard in performance and discussion on Maine Public Radio a few days prior to their performance in Ogunquit with the DaPonte String Quartet radio piece scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, and the Cassatt String Quartet to be interviewed and perform at 11 am on Monday, June 12.
Tickets for the upcoming Ogunquit performances are $14 in advance, $16 at the door and $12 senior. A series ticket for all four performances will be on sale for $40. As usual, students 18 and under will be admitted free.
Tickets may be purchased at the Dunaway Center, the Ogunquit Camera Shop and the Ogunquit Welcome Center and may also be reserved by calling or faxing 646-6170.
