Robert Edward Berger
ISLAMORADA, Fla. - Robert Edward Berger, Bob as family and friends would call him, died unexpectedly on May 18 at his home in Islamorada, Fla.Bob was born on August 1,1934, in Jamestown, N.D. He was born to parents Luella Berger and Arthur Berger Sr., who both preceded him in death. As a child he moved to York and graduated from York High School class of 1952. After high school he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea.
Bob is survived by his brother, Arthur Berger; sons, James Berger and Robert Berger II; daughters, Judy Woods and Wendy Rogers; nine grandchildren, Sara, Jennifer and David Woods, Patty and Jimmy Berger, Robbie and Colby Berger, Christopher and Rebecca Rogers; ex-wife Lois Berger, and long time companion Jan Wood. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Bob's love for fishing brought him to Florida where he opened a specialized fishing supplies shop called Bonefish Bob's. He was known to all of the locals as Bonefish Bob, known for fishing tips and fish stories. He had a love for fishing and his shop reflected that love by having handmade flies he made himself, hard-to-find collectable reels, collectable tackle and marine memorabilia.
Bob also had a passion for golf and he loved to play cribbage. He was a member of the Lions Club and was always involved in the community.
There was a ceremony held in his honor in Islamorada, Fla., and a local memorial will be held at the York Fisherman's Memorial on Sunday, June 4, at 2 p.m. Family and friends are welcome.
