Lady Capers bury Lady Cats. 13-1
After scoring a team high 16 runs (against Traip on Thursday) the York Lady Wildcats (6-9) could not buy a run against Cape Elizabeth (13-2) on Friday. York Coach Lynne Michaud reported, "It was pretty ugly. We made four errors and our poor play in the field was contagious. We also struck out eight times. Our only run came in the fifth when Kellie Lajoie walked and Becky Enright singled. Then Glen Swanson reached on a fielders choice and Lajoie scored on a passed ball."Haley Woods (5-7) handled the pitching and Lindsay Robinson did the catching.
Lady Cats romp over Rangers 16-4
Last Thursday, May 25, the York Lady Wildcats (6-8), in a push for the playoffs, traveled to Kittery to play the Traip Lady Rangers and scored two quick runs in the first inning. But Traip countered with two unearned runs after two outs in the bottom of the inning to even the score. Haley Woods was on the mound for York and retired the Traip batters in order in the second and third innings. Meanwhile York was also retired in order but the Lady Wildcats broke the game open in the fourth inning. Jolene Ciampa hit a tie breaking two run double and Christene Newton hit a line drive triple to left with the bases loaded to score what proved to be the winning runs.York salted the game away in the top of the sixth when they sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight runs. Michaela Franey, Glenn Swanson, Kristin Raymond and Mo Roche led off the inning with consecutive singles and all scored. Ciampa pitched the last two innings for York and Coach Lynne Michaud was able to use her entire bench. Manager Mike Benson led the cheers and promised a win if I would put his name in the paper.
Lady Wildcats edge Lady Knights 2-1
Last Wednesday, May 24, the York Lady Wildcats played host to the Poland Lady Knights (6-6) and defeated them for the second time this year in a low scoring pitchers duel. Haley Woods pitched a complete game for York and gave up just a single run in the seventh. Woods had good support in the field when York turned a 4-6-3 (Whitney Westman to Mo Roche to Caitlyn Keating) double play in the sixth. Roche went in the hole and fielded a hot grounder and made the long throw to first to retire a Lady Knight in the second and sophomore Kelsey Cruz made a long run to snag a fly in left in the fifth. Woods helped her own cause in the seventh when she fielded a bunt on the third base line and gunned a throw to Keating at first for the final out.York scored the lead run in the first when Michaela Franey walked and Roche followed with a RBI triple to left. Becky Enright reached on an error in the fifth and advanced on a bunt by Jade Damboise and then scored on a two base error.
Lady Yachtsmen down Lady Cats 3-1
The York Lady Wildcats (4-8) suffered a disappointing loss at Falmouth last Tuesday when the Lady Yachtsmen overcame a 1-0 York lead with two runs in the third and another in the fifth. Mo Roche handled the pitching chores for York and Lindsay Robinson did the catching. Becky Enright singled for York in the first and stole second. She advanced to third on a passed ball and came in to score on a RBI/SAC fly by Roche. A disappointed York Coach, Lynne Michaud, said after the game, "We still have four games to play in the regular season but will have to improve our hitting to make the playoffs."
