Gosselin, Owens join ranks of York and Ogunquit Police Departments

YORK - Maine's 61 newest police officers - including one from the York Police Department and one from the Ogunquit Police Department - graduated this month from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.

York's newest officer is Christopher C. Gosselin and Ogunquit's officer is Brett M. Owens.

Governor John E. Baldacci was the commencement speaker and told the new officers about the challenges they will face as they begin their new profession.

"I wish you success, satisfaction and growth as you begin your career as guardians of peace and freedom," he said. "The good work of a police officer is often under appreciated and I value all the hard work you will perform on behalf of the people of Maine."

Gosselin, Owens and the remaining 54 men and five women who graduated come from the state, county and municipal ranks and completed 18 weeks of study and training. Among the training topics were criminal and traffic law, domestic violence, firearms, first aid, crime scene processing, emergency vehicle operation and sexual assault.
