Local man sentenced for dealing drugs
YORK - John Sweeney, with a last known address of York, has been sentenced to 25 months in a federal prison on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.The sentence was handed down in United States District Court in Portland on Thursday, June 1.
In addition to prison time, Sweeney, who was found in possession of 500 grams of cocaine, was sentenced to 500 hours in a drug program and three years in a supervised release program as well as probation.
Sweeney pleaded guilty to federal charges last year along with Scott Fisher, also of York. Fisher is due to be sentenced June 26, York Police Detective Thomas Cryan confirmed.
Fisher also faces charges relating to dispensing heroin resulting in the death of a 17-year-old York girl in 2004.
Sweeney was indicted by a federal grand jury last December. Information is limited at this time as grand jury proceedings are continuing into various aspects of the case.
