What: Fishing skills and gear seminar: "Lines, Leaders and Knots"
Where: Kittery Trading Post, Rte 1, Kittery, Maine

When most of us gear up for fishing, our money and our attention goes to the big stuff - the rod, the reel, various lures and bait, maybe even a new electronic fishfinder. Often, though, it is our choice of line and leader and our skill at tying knots that can make the difference between success and failure when landing the big ones. Join Kittery Trading Post and the prostaffers of Gamma Technologies for "Lines, Leaders and Knots", a free seminar aimed at creating immediate and measurable improvements in the numbers of fish you catch and keep.
In addition to "Lines, Leaders and Knots", Kittery Trading Post is offering dozens of other free fishing seminars during its annual Junefest celebration, June 19 - 24. Tuna Fishing with Dennis Braid; Striper and Bluefish with Blaine Anderson and Pat Renna; De-mystifying Baitcasting Reels with Eric Matland; and the final stop on the national Shimano tour (with their own giant tent and seminars every ninety minutes) are only a few of the attractions on offer. After you've learned all you needed to know at the seminars, you are invited to join Kittery Trading Post, Extreme Edge Fishing and Stripers Forever in the "Wade, Walk and Paddle" fishing rodeo, a family oriented, catch-photograph-release fishing tournament.
To sign up for "Lines, Leaders and Knots", or for more information about the many other fishing seminars at Kittery Trading Post during Junefest and throughout the summer, please visit www.ktp.com, e-mail info@ktp.com, call 1-888-KTP-MAINE or visit the customer service desk at Kittery Trading on Rte.1 in Kittery, Maine.

Join the Museums of Old York On Saturday June 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Point of View A behind the scenes tour of studios, homes and gardens.
The scenic beauty of the Maine Coast and the rich character of its historic buildings and landscapes have inspired artists for centuries. A vibrant community of creators and collectors of regional art continues today, keeping this heritage alive.
On Saturday June 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Old York will offer residents and visitors a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in contemporary and historic art in settings rarely open to the public. For this single day, studios of working artists and two renowned artists from York's past, as well as the homes and gardens of outstanding collectors, will be open for all to enjoy. A series of hosted dinners will also be held that evening. This will be a visual feast not to be missed!
Hap Moore Auctioneer is sponsoring this Artists/Collectors Tour from which proceeds will help underwrite Old York's preservation of eight historic sites and educational programs serving thousands of children each year.
To date some of the very special artist studios and collectors homes on the tour include: Tim Ellis of Cape Neddick, Michael Walek and Todd Bezold's historic Mill Dam House at Chases Pond, sculptor Michael Stasiuk and metal-smith Alan Perry of Portsmouth, York's Rosalind Fedeli and Sumner and Helen Winebaum, the historic Susan Ricker Knox studio in York Harbor and the landmark Charles Woodbury studio at Perkins Cove.
High cliffs and stone outcroppings serve as a backdrop for the Ellis 1804 farmhouse, which displays Ellis's superb collection of local art amassed over four decades. Granite walkways wind through surrounding perennial gardens from which sculpture seems to grow. Sloping lawns lead to a meadow below where whimsical sculpture and stone installations delight the visitor.
The Mill Dam house is located at the spillway of Chases Pond and is the home of Tatnic Group artists Michael Walek and Todd Bezold. The gardens surrounding the foundations of the historic mill site include varieties ranging from historic plants such as tobacco and castor bean to tropical exotics whose various forms and colors excite the imaginations of the artists. Pottery and urns collected from travels abroad overflow with lavish displays and imaginative combinations of plants to further enhance these magnificent gardens.
Along with the talented artists and collectors on tour, the historic studios of acclaimed artists Susan Ricker Knox and Charles Woodbury will be open to the public. Portsmouth born artist Susan Ricker Knox (1874-1959) made her reputation by painting the children of America's wealthiest families. She attended art school at Drexel Institute in Philadelphia and at the Cooper Union in New York City. A well-known portrait artist by 1913, Knox divided her time between her winter studio at the National Arts Club in and her summer studio in York Harbor. On display in this charming cottage, which she designed herself, will be silhouettes and a portrait from the Old York Historical Society collection.
Charles Woodbury was among the most influential artists to live and work in Ogunquit. Woodbury taught at his Maine studio for thirty-six summers and the success of his art school secured Ogunquit's reputation as one of America's preeminent summer art colonies.
