It was Maine Night at Coastal Ridge Elementary School on Thursday, June 1. For the special event, each third-grade student studied some aspect of the state of Maine, presenting projects for peers, parents and friends. Above, Malory Connolly shows off a couple of crustacean assistants for her report on the lobster industry. Malory chose the subject because, she said, both her father and grandfather are lobstermen.

New law in place to protect ocean access for those who work the waters

A state initiative with strong ties to the local community officially became law when Gov. John E. Baldacci put his pen to the paper in favor of preserving Maine's maritime industries.
