OGUNQUIT - Through the generosity of Gallo Enterprises, the town of Ogunquit has acquired a one-acre parcel of land located on Bourne Lane and bordering the Josias River.

The dedication of the Josias River Public Park was held on Saturday afternoon, June 17, and town officials were presented a deed to the property.

Board of Selectmen Chairman John Miller accepted the property saying, "On behalf of the town we are very appreciative of this generous gift as one of the last pieces of open land in the town."

The donors intend to place two benches, a stairway and a statue honoring the late Eva Cavaretta, in the park in the future.

"I remember many years ago walking along the river bank with my boys and fishing for trout and now everyone can enjoy" the property, Miller said.

The Cavarettas are longtime business owners and residents of Ogunquit. They were formerly the owners of Tower's Drug Store on Main Street - now known as Ogunquit Remedies - from 1966 to 1972.
