Currents in Education

Just in time for the end of the 2006 academic year, students in Julie Crafts' first-grade class at Village Elementary School presented their own books at Young Author's Day on Monday, June 19, at the Village Elementary School Library. Through this special program, coordinated by volunteer Lynette Olsen, the students created artwork by using sponge painting, salt painting and other techniques and then looked to their artwork for inspiration in creating individual storybooks. The young authors, pictured from left to right (back) are Peter Kenealy, Jonathan Mark, Kate Marshall, Cameron Smith, Maura Sweeney, Eli Albert and Emma Ford and, front from left, Taylor Miller, Grace Olsen, Jackson Grimes, Isabelle Pike, Morgan Chapman, Jenny Baker and Juliette Naugle. Missing from the photo are Margot Kavanaugh, Camden Welch, Ali Lauerson and Lily Ruiz.
