The time for new periodicals has arrived at the York Public Library
By Assistant Director Sudie Blanchard
YORK VILLAGE - Anyone who's been in the library recently may have noticed a big change. Our periodical shelving area has grown taller and wider. This is to accommodate the large number of additional magazine titles that have begun arriving as the new subscription year begins. The 46 new titles have been selected to appeal to a wide range of ages and interests. They will complement the 50 subscriptions we already receive.
Hobbyists of all sorts will enjoy magazines like "Digital Photographer," "Family Handyman," "Piecework," "Popular Mechanics," "Popular Photography" and "Car & Driver." Sports enthusiasts can delve into "Backpacker," "Golf Digest," "Field & Stream," "Soundings" and "Runners World."
The cooks among us will find tasty treats in "Cuisine at Home" and "Food & Wine." Financial whizzes can use "Barrons" and "Fortune" to help make and manage their money. For technology gurus, joining "PC World" on library shelves will be issues of "MacWorld" and "Wired."
We're now able to subscribe to a number of magazines that many of you have requested. These titles include "Coastal Living," the "New Yorker," "Atlantic Monthly," "Martha Stewart Living" and "Arthritis Today."
As part of our attention to the Young Adult section, we have bolstered the number of magazine titles that will appeal to that age group. Keeping old standby "Seventeen" company in that section will be "Teen People," "Snowboarding," "Skateboarding," "ElleGirl" and "Nickelodeon."
The Children's Room's magazine collection is not being left out in this expansion. Kids young and old will enjoy "Kid's Discover," "Your Big Backyard," "American Girl" and "Ranger Rick."
These are just a few of the many additions to this part of our collection. Next time you come to the library, take time to head over to the magazine section that's in front of the three big windows overlooking the pond. Find a magazine that appeals to you and then take a few minutes to rest and read in one of our comfy chairs. You'll be glad you did.
