By C. Ayn Douglass
OGUNQUIT - The Dunaway Center hosted a two-week training session from May 31 through June 16 for law enforcement officials spanning the state from York County to Houlton.According to Susan Holmes, training supervisor for the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro, Ogunquit has hosted the Law Enforcement Pre-Service for many years.
The pre-service is a requirement for part-time law enforcement officers. The course covers topics such as ethics, human relations, basic law and legal procedures, courtroom procedures, patrol and traffic procedures, firearms safety, investigation, and first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Following the law enforcement pre-service training, each hiring law enforcement agency within the state conducts a more in-depth training to meet the needs of that specific department.
The 60 men and women who participated in the Ogunquit program represent law enforcement agencies from Ogunquit and York as well as other towns and municipalities throughout the state.
