York Beach Historical Walking Tour. Join Old York for an historical overview of the architectural and cultural changes that have evolved since the late 19th century while walking through the historic village. Your guide will use historic photographs from the Old York Historical Society collections illustrating the "then and now." The tour lasts about an hour. Meet at the Gazebo in Ellis Park at Short Sands Beach, 4pm, $5 per person. Free to Old York members.

Morning Adventure, Breaking the Emerson Code, Jefferds' Tavern, York. A fun scavenger hunt for mystery detectives good at breaking codes. Join York Land Trust for a York River kayak trip. Ride the incoming tide up the York River and Smelts Brook to the recently acquired "Smelt's Cove" parcel. Enjoy an early lunch and snacks on the riverbank overlooking marsh grass wetlands and views of the upper York River watershed. Please allot 4 to 5 hours for the event with 3 hours of moderate paddling on flat water. Registration required: The trip is limited to the first 20 registrants. The event is free and open to the public. Call 363-7400 to register. We have access to a few spare kayaks or can recommend locations to rent. Put in at 9:30am at the ramp at Scotland Bridge. Chamber Choir Recital: 16-voice a capella choir Renaissance Voices makes its fourth appearance at Ogunquit Museum of American Art with a wonderful program entitled, "Sweet Lovers Love The Spring!" Renaissance Voices specializes in 17th-20th century music interspersed with prose and poetry readings. Included in this evening's program will be works by William Shakespeare, Thomas Morley, Thomas Weelkes and Charles Baudelaire. Admission: $15 adults; $13 students; $11 OMAA members. JUNE 10 TO JULY 16 George Marshall Store Gallery presents MECA - Connections - and Jim Wilkinson's abstract paintings. Selected works by faculty of the Maine College of Art will be on display in the main level gallery. Jim Wilkinson's abstract paintings will be shown in the dock level gallery. Jim Wilkinson graduated from the Portland School of Art in 1971 (the predecessor of the Maine College of Art). Since then he has been committed to abstract painting. JUNE & JULY Woodcut prints by Ogunquit artist Don Gorvett will adorn the walls of the York Public Library during the months of June and July. The public is invited to hear the artist talk about his work on Wednesday, June 14, at 6 p.m. The New England coast and the sea are fundamental to Gorvett's art, which is also influenced by a romantic passion for history, drama, and music. Gorvett's works may be found at the Portland Museum of Art, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, the Cape Ann Historical Museum, and the Duxbury Art Complex, as well as in many corporate and private collections. Commenting on the inspiration for his work, Gorvett says, "Upon the sea waters of estuaries and harbors are mirrored the play of interweaving lights and darks of buildings and piers crowned by steeples and mast tops. JUNE 10 TO OCT 8 Old York Historical Society presents Real, Reproduction or Outright Fake? Not everything is what it appears to be, especially in the world of antiques and museum collections. What does a museum curator or collector look for to determine if a piece is real, reproduction, or fake? A season-long exhibit in the Long Parlor Gallery of Old York's Emerson-Wilcox House will show examples of furniture, glass, ceramics, textiles and other decorative arts that will both test and inform the visitor about what to look for to determine authenticity and value. JUNE 28 TO JULY 30 The Barn Gallery's Annual Open Show Regional Artists will take place. Also, OAA Expressions, a varied and exciting exhibition by artists of the Ogunquit Art Association will be shown in the Lower Gallery. Two printmakers, Nancy R. Davison and Hara Harding, will exhibit etchings, linocuts, woodcuts and monoprints in the newly renovated North Gallery. JULY 1 TO JULY 15 The Beth Ellis Cove Gallery's 3rd Annual Small Works Exhibition of original oils is on display. Beth Ellis' new works showcase the shorelines of southern Maine, the splendor of Connecticut and the unparallel beauty of Monehegan Island. JULY 1 TO AUG. 21 Ogunquit Museum of American Art, 543 Shore Rd., Ogunquit, presents two new exhibits: 139th Annual American Watercolor Society International Juried Exhibit: Founded in 1866 as "the American Society of Painters in Water Color", the American Watercolor Society is one of this nation's most prestigious arts organizations. Included in this traveling exhibition are approximately 50 paintings chosen by the 2006 AWS Jury of Selection. The other exhibit is Britain in Black & White: Photographs by Conrad Marvin. Conrad Marvin studied photography with Ansel Adams, John Sexton, and at the DeCordova Museum School. Open Monday - Saturday 10:30am-5pm & Sunday 2-5pm.
