York's Softball All-Stars win 12-9
YORK - York's 11- and 12-year-old girls' softball team won its all-star game against TriTown 12 to 9, staying alive in this double elimination competition.With York's team missing two key players - Colleen Tourigney with a broken leg and Rachel Barrows with illness - Cari Posternak stepped up and pitched a terrific complete game striking out four.
York's strong defense was led by Lindsey Casey at short, Kelly Swatek catching a truly masterful game.
Ella Steffenberg and Nicci Heroux were sharing duties at second base and both playing truly outstanding defense in the clutch with Steffenberg making two huge outs in TriTown's scoreless fifth inning.
Also leading the defense was Michelle Sala at first, Brianna Eaton at third, Rachel Kelley in center, Alanna Eaton in left and Elizabeth Fiorentino in right, with Fiorentino firing the ball to Casey, covering second base to get the lead runner for a key out in the bottom of the sixth.
Swatek had two hits and Posternak, Casey, Brianna Eaton and Fiorentino each had three hits, with Fiorentino crushing a double to right in the sixth inning.
Kelley played a solid center field and had a double and triple and drove in key runs in the fourth and sixth to help seal the victory.
Leading the way on the bases, Brianna Eaton got on base four times, stole three bases and scored three runs for York.
