YORK VILLAGE - If you are a fan of local lore or an aficionado of the finer things in life, then The Museum Shop is the place you want to be this summer.

And, fortunately, The Museum Shop is now open for the season.

Located right in the center of York Village on York Street/Route 1A, diagonally across the street from the Old York Historical Society's administration building, the shop is filled to the brim with decorative items for the home, vintage games and toys for children and adults alike - and more.

The shop boasts books on local history, folklore and architecture as well as gardening, cooking and general history.

"The items in the shop reflect the diverse collections of the Museums of Old York and the history of our town," explained Cheryl Farley of the Old York Historical Society. "Many items are museum quality and make lovely gifts for all occasions."

With the summer now officially underway in York, the shop is all decked out and ready for local residents and summer visitors alike to stop by and browse its many offerings. And if you are interested in getting involved in a project with strong ties to York's history, the shop could use your help.

"The Museum Shop is run entirely by volunteers and is always in need of people who will help keep the doors open," Farley said.

Currently, at least two more volunteers are needed to assist at The Museum Shop. If you have time to give and enjoy working in a pleasant atmosphere and with the many visitors who come from all over the globe, please call Cheryl Farley at 363-4974 to sign up to volunteer.

The Museum Shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Old York Historical Society members receive a 10 percent discount on all non-sale purchases at the shop. and all proceeds from the shop benefit the Museums of Old York.
