Philip D. d'Entremont
Philip D. d'Entremont
Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on July 11, 1922, he was a son of Simeon and Anne (Phillips) d'Entremont. He was raised in Kittery Point and attended local schools, graduating in 1940 from R.W Traip Academy.
Following graduation, Mr. d'Entremont worked for a time at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard before joining the United States Army Air Corps, serving in various duty stations around the country U.S. Military he attended New England Aircraft School attaining his degree in aircraft maintenance.
He met and, in 1948, married his wife of many years Gloria Eldredge. Together they made their home in York, the Beach and Cape Neddick, raising their family and serving as an active member of his community. Philip owned and operated PD d'Entremont and Sons in York for 34 years. He served as a member of, and past president of, the York Water District Board of Trustees for nearly 20 years and was the assistant fire chief in York Beach for many years. He was also a life member of St. Aspinquid Lodge and past president of the York Lion's Club.
In 1988 he met and married his wife Connie (Nutter) d'Entremont, together they made their home in the Moosehead Lakes region in Rockwood for over 22 years. Although retired, he was often seen by those from the York area traveling in northern Maine, operating the road grader on the Northern Road.
He enjoyed hunting, all types of fishing, snowmobiling and boating and just about any other out-of-doors activity. He and his wife enjoyed trips to the Canadian provinces in their motor home.
Most recently he returned to York where he made his home for several years before moving to Eliot very recently.
He is survived by his wife Connie (Nutter) d'Entremont of Eliot; a son David of York; a daughter Andrea d'Entremont of York; a son Gary and his wife Cindy of York, and a daughter Donna and her husband Douglas Foster of Dover, N.H., as well as a granddaughter Melissa Ackerman; brothers Charles d'Entremont of York and Rev. Robert d'Entremont of Centerville, Mass.; a nephew Chuck and his wife Peg d'Entremont and their daughter Katie of York, several other nieces and nephews and his beloved cats Gabbie and Misty.
He was predeceased by his brother Bradley d'Entremont in 2000.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at the First Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the York Beach Fire Department PO Box 70, York Beach, ME 03910.
Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
