Tuesday, July 11, was SPAM Day at York's own UpSurf.net Internet Cafe when local author and cyber crime expert J.A. Hitchcock decided to make her local book-signing event into something out of the ordinary. To highlight a chapter about e-mail spam in her newest book, "Net Crimes & Misdemeanors Second Edition," Hitchcock served Hormel SPAM - that famous meat in the can. Hitchcock, pictured with UpSurf.net owner Bob Rogers, whipped up a couple of SPAM dishes she found on the Hormel website: SPAM dip and SPAM casserole. Throughout the afternoon, visitors got a chance to try the dishes (along with cheese and crackers) while picking up copies of Hitchcock's new book. An informal survey found that 80 percent preferred the SPAM dip to the casserole, but her book was preferred by all.
