Local performers to grace stage in Seaglass production of "Annie"
YORK - The sun will come out tomorrow, and it won't just be on the beach. That's because Seaglass Performing Arts, founded and directed by Jean Strazdes, is bringing that favorite musical of children and adults alike, "Annie," to life at Thornton Academy's Garland Auditorium, just a short drive north from York and Ogunquit in Saco.
And the production has several York connections - including Director Lisa Stathoplos, who is known locally for her work as an educator at York High School. With more than 30 years professional experience in acting and teaching, Stathoplos and fellow Seaglass director and York School Department educator Michael Crockett recently wrote and directed "Peter and the Big Bad Wolf," an amusing version of Prokofiev's classic with the York High School Players.
"Annie" also features several York children in its cast who are portraying orphans in the production.
The Seaglass Players production of "Annie: The Musical" will open this Thursday, Aug. 3, at 7:30 p.m., with performances on Friday, Aug. 4, also at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 5 and 6, at 4 p.m. in the air-conditioned Garland Auditorium at Thornton Academy, Route 1, Saco.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and college students and $8 for children ages six to 17. Admission is free for children under the age of six, and group rates are available for groups of 10 or more.
Reservations may be secured by calling 985-8747 or e-mailing shawmut@metrocast.net.
