OGUNQUIT - For many decades, families have migrated to the beaches during summer vacation months.

Years ago, painters such as Woodbury and Prendergast would often take their easels to the beaches to capture these delightful scenes using their spontaneous plein air style.

Today, in a similar tradition, Beth Ellis enjoys the excitement and challenge of setting up on the local beaches and catching special moments of children playing at the shore.

Three wonderful paintings of "Children at the Shore" are being featured this month as new limited-edition giclees at the Beth Ellis Cove Gallery in Perkins Cove. Also, during the first two weeks of August, you are apt to see Beth Ellis herself set up in the early morning hours on Wells or Ogunquit Beach "catching moments," as she says, with her colorful palette of oils.

"Our gallery is for children as well as grownups," she explained, "so during the month of August we are celebrating Children at the Shore by having an easel set up for kids to use when they visit our gallery with their parents. I want children to enjoy the experience of my gallery so that art will have an important place in their lives as they grow."

Please visit the sunny seaside gallery during the next couple of weeks to see both the originals and fine reproductions available of "Children at the Shore." And bring your kids - they too will find something worthwhile about this gallery experience.

Beth Ellis Cove Gallery, located upstairs across from the drawbridge in the center of Perkins Cove, is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
