CAPE NEDDICK - Girl Scout Troop 810 is inviting you to visit their special exhibit of Cape Neddick from 100 years ago, on view now at the Old York Historical Society's Decorator Show House.

Troop 810 began the project by collecting historical photographs and postcards of the local beaches, hotels and magnificent homes. Most of the pictures are representative of the late 1800s and early 1900s and show rural Cape Neddick.

The exhibit will be displayed through Aug. 12 in the sales room of this year's Decorator Show House, Hillside Cottage, on Agamenticus Avenue in Cape Neddick.

"We are displaying some really early pictures of Cape Neddick and York Beach," said senior Girl Scout Alexandra Hayford. "It's exciting to see that most of the natural beauty of our area is exactly the same as it was a century ago."

The exhibit was created as a community project for the Girl Scouts to earn their Leadership Award, which requires three community projects as well as 30 hours of leadership activities.

The Girl Scouts anticipate they will receive their Leadership Award next spring and will then set out to complete the prestigious Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouts.

"We also want to thank members of the Old York Historical Society for their help with the project, specifically Cheryl Farley, Virginia Spiller and Carol Coles," Hayford said. "We learned a lot about our town from the Old York Historical Society and we also accomplished our goals of learning how to work with a budget, project plans and deadlines."

The Show House is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The last ticket is sold one half hour before closing. Admission is $20 at the door and all proceeds benefit the Museums of Old York and its education programs.

The Show House is closed on Tuesdays.
