Late summer events at Ogunquit's Barn Gallery

OGUNQUIT - The Barn Gallery in will host its late summer exhibitions from Aug. 9 through Labor Day, Sept. 4.

In "Maine Directions," Ogunquit Art Association artists will explore the state of Maine while "OAA Expressions" will feature work in a wide variety of media and subject.

Printmaker Terry Downs and painter Jeanne Lachance will have showcase exhibitions in the newly renovated North Gallery.

Part Two of The Invited New England Sculptors Exhibition will display new work in the outdoor Sculpture Court. All are invited to a Reception on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Artist gallery talks and panel discussions continue on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Invited New England Sculptors will discuss their work on Aug. 10 and Terry Downs and Jeanne Lachance will talk about small etchings and big paintings on Aug. 17. Each will give a workshop. OAA artists will discuss "Maine Directions" and living an artist's life in Maine on Aug. 24.

Workshops in August include "Watercolor Batik" with Jeanne Lachance on Monday, Aug. 14; "Simple Watercolor Landscape" with DeWitt Hardy on Monday, Aug. 21, and "Intaglio Printmaking" with Terry Downs on Monday, Aug. 28. Call the Barn Gallery to register in advance.

Other Late Summer activities at the Barn include Figure Drawing from the Model on Aug. 15, 22, and 29, and Art Videos at the Gallery on Aug. 9, 16, 23 and 30.

"Poets in Person," a cabaret entertainment by local poets and musicians to open Capriccio, Ogunquit's 12-day town-wide festival of the arts, will be held on Monday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The Barn Gallery is located at the corner of Shore Road and Bourne Lane in Ogunquit. There is limited free parking. For receptions and other major events, patrons are urged to park in the town lots.
