YORK - The 9/10 All Stars took home wins from both of their games at the State Tournament held in Windham this past weekend.
On Saturday, July 29, it was York 3 vs. Waldo 0 in seven innings.
The York defense was led by a strong pitching performance from Adam Bailey, who struck out eight batters and allowed only three hits over six innings, and Anthony Sciaudone, who came on in the seventh inning to retire the side for a combined shutout.
A key defensive play came in the fourth inning when Waldo had runners on second and third with two outs and the number six hitter, Rob Ayers, at the plate. He hit a hard ground ball that Michael Gallagher fielded, going to his left on a short hop and threw the runner out at first base for the final out of the inning, saving two runs.
The York bats came alive in the top half of the seventh inning when Matt Pratt led off with a walk followed by a Gallagher walk and then Andrew LaMonica ripped a double to left center, driving in Pratt and Gallagher for a 2-0 lead.
Adam Bailey then singled driving in LaMonica for the third run of the inning.
On Sunday, July 30, the final score was York 17 and Hall-Dale 3.
The York offense behind a 17-hit attack and two home runs beat Hall-Dale in a five-inning, 10-run rule affair.
Offensively for York, Derek Neal went 2-2 with four RBIs, including a two-run homerun to right field. Ross Hogan went 1-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run homerun to left field. Aaron Todd went 3-3 with three RBIs, including two doubles. LaMonica went 3-5 with two RBIs, including two doubles, and Gallagher went 3-4 with three runs scored.
Defensively, Sean McKenna made a key play at third base, fielding a hard groundball to his left and throwing him out with runners in scoring position.
Sciaudone went four strong innings, giving up only four hits to get the win, and Todd came on in the fifth to retire the three batters he faced.
The next game is York vs. Falmouth on Thursday, Aug. 3, at 5:30 p.m. at Lowell Farm Field in Windham.
