York High School sophomore Nathaniel Maddix was just one of several York musicians who took part in the 2006 Summer Rock Workshop run by the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center. Maddix and his band, Garthaniel and the Jams, performed live at Prescott Park in Portsmouth, N.H., last Friday night, Aug. 4, in the final performance of the workshop.

Just north of the Kittery traffic circle, on the easterly side of Route 1 at its junction with Rogers Road is the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum, a seasonal non-profit museum honoring Kittery's past as a naval vessel building center during the American Revolution. Auditions for "Best Enemies," a new comedy by award-winning playwright/novelist and local resident Michael Kimball, will be held at The Players' Ring in Portsmouth, N.H., on Saturday, Aug. 12.

Fifty years ago the York Art Association (YAA), which today has over 100 members, was founded. Girl Scout Troop 810 is inviting you to visit their special exhibit of Cape Neddick from 100 years ago, on view now at the Old York Historical Society's Decorator Show House. The fifth season of the Ogunquit Heritage Museum at the Captain James Winn House is off to an exciting start. "I have a whole collection of palette knives, very expensive, good ones," comments the artist Grant Drumheller, a University of New Hampshire professor who is currently having a one-man exhibit of his recent art at the George Marshall Store Gallery's downstairs dock level. Ask anyone who's a part of the local fashion scene and they'll tell you that red is this year's black. Every year, the Portland Museum of Art mounts a major show designed to interest Maine tourists and residents.
