Auditions set for new Mike Kimball play
YORK - Auditions for "Best Enemies," a new comedy by award-winning playwright/novelist and local resident Michael Kimball, will be held at The Players' Ring in Portsmouth, N.H., on Saturday, Aug. 12.Kimball's most recent play, "Ghosts of Ocean House," was performed earlier this year at The Players' Ring, which is located at 105 Marcy St. in Portsmouth.
While "Ghosts of Ocean House" was set on the Maine coast in a town not so different from York, Kimball promises something very different for actors and theatre-goers alike with his latest production.
"Best Enemies is about two cowboys marooned on a tiny desert island where they've invented their own geography - Big Mountain, Big Forest, etc., and their own laws - no seeing through mountains, no talking about food or women," Kimball said. "Eventually, they go to war over their shared cowboy hat. As they rob one another of food and sleep, and their geography and laws begin mutating, each man must face his death and, in doing so, must also face his life."
Auditions for men and women will be held at The Players' Ring from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 12.
There were be cold readings from the script and/or you can bring a prepared piece.
The play will be directed by Lisa Stathoplos with performances Oct 6 through 22.
Cast openings included Rex (male, 40s to 50s) Lu-Ann (female, 20s or 30s) and the bearded cowboy (male, 30s).
