YORK - As the heat, humidity and dog days of summer approach, the Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce wants to remind you of all the great things about life in Maine.

From wonderful local farms to scenic state parks, from the sprawling rocky coast to the mountains - and not to mention the food - the chamber is going to celebrate all the things that are good in Maine by partnering with the Eliot Antique Tractor and Engine Association to throw a festival that showcases the uniqueness of the state.

The festival - appropriately called Celebrate Maine - will take place this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12 and 13, at the Raitt Farm in nearby Eliot.

Celebrate Maine will feature a craft show, cow patty bingo, potato print making, a display from the Maine Department of Agriculture and several Maine information and educational booths on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, a local farmer's market, an antique car show and a blueberry baking contest will take place on Sunday.

There will be kids events, live music and much more - including an array of classic Maine food from such favorite restaurants as the Muddy River Marketplace, Stone Coast Brewery and Shain's of Maine, as well as bean hole beans, lobster rolls, corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs and strawberry and blueberry shortcake.

For those of you interested in being part of the fun, there is still room to sign up for the blueberry baking contest or to participate as a craft vendor.

The Raitt Farm is located on Route 103 in Eliot. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

Bring your lawn chair or blanket, but no coolers are allowed. Tickets are $4 per person, per day, but the festival is free for children ages 12 and under.

For more information on the festival or on how to sign up to take part in the baking contests or craft fair, call 363-4422 or visit www.gatewaytomaine.org.

A complete schedule is also listed on the chamber's website.
