Sing along with "The Sound of Music" this Sunday
YORK VILLAGE - The York Public Library will present a special one-time showing this Sunday, Aug. 13, of Roger's and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. This classic musical, based on the true story of the von Trapp family and their escape from Austria at the onset of World War II, stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
The film offers a rare combination of drama, comedy and beautiful scenery as well as unforgettable music. And the outstanding performances by the stars are matched - and some say the film was even stolen from them - by a company of talented, charming children.
With that in mind, the film will be shown at 6 p.m. - an hour earlier than the usual show time - and the room will be specially arranged to accommodate children, including space to lie and roll around on the floor or even dance, if the spirit moves them.
What's more, audience members young and old will be encouraged to sing along as favorite songs are being screened.
It all adds up to a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy a very pleasant movie experience together.
Admission is free, as always, and refreshments and free popcorn will be available.
