The seal pictured here swam ashore at York Harbor Beach on Saturday, Aug. 5. According to beachgoers, the seal swam the length of the beach and came ashore numerous times. After about 40 minutes, animal rescue personnel arrived and transported the seal from the beach.

York Police Department Animal Control Officer Larry McAfee said he was told that a call was made to the Portland-based Marine Animal Lifeline, which transported the seal from the beach.

"Quite often, they'll relocate to a quieter area," McAfee said, adding since York ACO was not directly involved, he did not have an update on the seal's status.

No information on the seal's condition was available from Marine Animal Lifeline as of Tuesday afternoon.
