OPA to present Mark Kleinhaut Jazz Trio
Mark Kleinhaut, a jazz guitarist for 30 years, has developed a personal sound and recognizable voice on his instrument, is a prolific jazz composer and leader of the Mark Kleinhaut Trio, appearing at the Barn Gallery in Ogunquit on Friday, Aug. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
Maine Jazz guitarist Mark Kleinhaut's reputation in the jazz community has been growing steadily. He is recognized not only for his technical skill on the guitar, but as an improviser and composer.
According to Stuart Nudelman, chairman of Ogunquit Performing Arts, "It gives OPA members great pleasure to bring jazz back to Ogunquit and at the same time round out our offering of another aspect of music. We are also taking this opportunity to utilize this concert as a fundraiser for the Capital Campaign for renovating the historic Barn Gallery in Ogunquit."
Kleinhaut's music is steeped in the jazz tradition but also incorporates electronic, rock and world music elements.
The Mark Kleinhaut Trio has released five critically acclaimed CDs, has performed with some of the most respected names in the jazz world, has toured in Europe and has performed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
The trio, consisting of Kleinhaut and long-time musical colleagues Jim Lyden and Les Harris, Jr., has been playing music together for years.
Making their latest album, "Holding Center," was described by Kleinhaut as "really invigorating. … Over the past couple of years we have had some great experiences like recording and performing wit Tiger Okoshi and Bobby Watson, both amazing horn players, having our last recording, 'A Balance of Light,' make it into the top 20 on the national jazz radio charts, and having the opportunity to travel to Europe, but it has been really great to take all these experiences back into the studio and have some fun with the guys."
Tickets are $16 and will be available at the door, or in advance at the Ogunquit Camera Shop, The Ogunquit Welcome Center and the Dunaway Center.
Refreshments and beverages will be available.
