Getting along just fine

Dear Independent:

Mr. Plotkin, with all due respect, what York is lacking is you! And "We got along before we met you and we'll get along without you now."

For those who feel they lack their conveniences here in York, I suggest they move.

Dorrian gives thanks

Dear Independent,

Over the last year the greater Seacoast came together to "Save Our Shipyard" - the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY). Recognizing the importance of PNSY to our community, the York town government earlier this year agreed to be the host community for the USS Philadelphia. To welcome the over 100 officers and men of the Philadelphia to York, this past Thursday I had the honor of organizing a town picnic for them. Held in the grass area behind Town Hall, it was a rousing success by any measure. But as Paul Harvey the commentator says - "Now for the rest of the story."

Our business community demonstrated why they are a vital part of York by providing food and refreshments for the picnic. I particularly call your attention to The Meat House, Stolen Menu Cafe, Stage Neck Inn, Fazio's, Fosters Downeast Clambake, York Harbor Inn, Stonewall Kitchen, The Chamber of Commerce, Bagel Basket, Hannaford, The Goldenrod, Roast and Crum, 421 Cafe & Bakery and Bonnie and Claude Bemis. Without their individual and collective effort the picnic would not have been possible. That is the "rest of the story."

So the next time you pass by these business establishments, go on in and extend your appreciation to them for making York a better place to live. These enterprises deserve our recognition, thanks for their support, and most of all, our business.
