YORK - Head Coach Randy Small and a roster of 50 players, including 20 seniors, are busy preparing for another winning season.

Two weeks of pre-season practice will be highlighted by a controlled scrimmage when York hosts St. Thomas Academy of Dover, N.H., this Friday night, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m.

This year's York coaching staff includes veterans Stacy Bradburn, Scott Ireland, Josh Reed, Archie Jones, Scott Taylor and Rich Labonte. Also returning is coach/trainer Kip Humphrey, along with newcomers Mark Stevens and Fred Joye.

The five senior elect captains who will be leading the team this year, and are all expected to play key roles, are backs Tony Romano and Zach Pruger and linemen Ryan Vokey, Tom Ross and Eugene Jones.

Other seniors with veteran experience in the backfield are Jon Jiminez, Alex Blomquist, James Pidgeon, Zach Wheeler and Alex Quinn.

Other veteran linemen include seniors Tim Jones, Nathan Willette, Robert Hampton, Matt Day and Jake Moran.

Other seniors expected to see action in the line are Cameron McIntire, Greg Hanson, Ian Bond, and Daniel Moran.

This year's nine-game schedule includes the same Western Maine Class B opponents as last year.

York will open with their first two games on the road. They will travel to Poland Regional on Sat., Sept. 2, for a 1:10 p.m. game and then go to Gray-New Gloucester on Friday night, Sept. 8. Five of the remaining seven games will be played at home on Friday nights starting at 7 p.m.

Small declined to predict any final results but did concede that "Mt. Valley is always tough and has many returning players."

Small added, "Falmouth was very young last year but has everybody back" and perennial rival Wells "will have a big line."
