YORK - D'Alessandro Fine Art Gallery, in cooperation with the Marial Museum of Sacred Art, presents "Expression of Divine Beauty," a benefit exhibition of sacred art.

The exhibition, which opens Aug. 18 with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m., will continue through Sept. 4.

"Expressions of Diving Beauty" will benefit the Marial Museum of Sacred Art and features local and national artists as well as pieces from the Marial Museum of Sacred Art collection.

The Marial Museum of Sacred Art is located in St. Augustine, Fla., and the museum's collection is curated by the Order of Saint Mary the Virgin, headquartered in Paris, France.

The order's mission is the promotion of the spiritual through culture and especially the fine arts. The order is headed by Bishop H.W.M. Tajra, who will be the opening-night guest of honor and give a gallery talk on sacred art on Sunday, Aug. 20, at 3 p.m.

"For centuries, sacred art was the main form of cultural artistic expression, reaching its height in the Renaissance," said Bishop H.W.M. Tajra. "Since then, it has also been a very present and vibrant part of personal spiritual life."

Among the art included in the exhibition, a portrait of the late Pope John Paul II by internationally-acclaimed portraitist Jean Wagner Troemel will be on display.

"The aim of the show is to increase public awareness of the beauty and depth of the sacred art experience; this is the stated mission of the Marial Museum of Sacred Art," Tajra said.

Located within view of the York River on Cider Hill Road, D'Alessandro Fine Art Gallery is a seasonal venue for nationally and internationally acclaimed artists.
