YORK VILLAGE - The York Public Library hopes your summer reading has also allowed you time to "read a few greens."
Whether you have been playing a little or a lot, in the woods or down the middle, you're invited to participate in the Third Annual York Public Library Golf Tournament, to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
The tournament will tee off at 1 p.m. for an enjoyable afternoon of play followed by a traditional lobster feast.
Even if you're not a golfer, you are most welcome to be there for the dinner, the silent auction and the evening festivities.
The open will include several golf challenges to test your skills, and may even enrich you.
And there will be a "Hole in One" contest on the 17th hole, sponsored by Starkey Ford, where you could win a new Ford Fusion. Or you may double your money on the "Vegas hole."
There will also be a silent auction with items of true interest, which you can bid on during the cocktail hour and dinner, and not to disappoint, a raffle or two, of course.
The tournament will directly benefit the growing book and media collection, fund increasingly popular children's and adult programs and continue to build a reserve fund for capital improvements and building repairs. These are items not funded by the tax dollars contributed by the town to the library's annual operating budget but paid for by the Library Association through fundraisers such as this tournament.
The $150 per-player fee covers your greens fees, a cart, your lobster dinner and contributes to the library as well.
Whether you choose to play, or would like to support the effort by making a donation to the silent auction or as a sponsor, sponsor and player forms can be found at the library or its website at www.york.lib.me.us.
