First day of school brings students back to reading, writing, arithmetic and more

While the official first day of fall may still be weeks away, those in the know around town would say the autumn season began on Tuesday, Sept. 5, as the majority of local students in grades K through 9 headed off to school.

Area charter school hosts visiting day

The Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM), a member of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology and Maine's only public residential magnet chartered school, is hosting a visiting day for current high school freshmen and sophomores on Sept. 30.
