Florence S. Gloriant
YORK - Florence S. Gloriant, 83, of 117 Long Sands Road, died Sunday, Sept.3, 2006, in York Hospital.She was born in Berkshire, Vermont, the daughter of Forrest and Hazel (Dorr) Stone, and lived in Fitchburg, Mass., and Saco before moving to York.
She was a graduate of the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg. During her 40-year career, she held various positions at Burbank Hospital. She also worked for the Fitchburg VNA, various nursing homes and private duty cases. She was instrumental in developing the oncology departments at Burbank and Nashoba Valley hospitals. She had served in the Navy.
She was an avid fisherman; she enjoyed knitting, reading, cooking and her computer.
She leaves her husband of 59 years, Samuel J. Gloriant; two sons, David A. Gloriant and his wife Kathleen of Somerville, Mass., and James P. Gloriant and his wife Diane of York; a granddaughter, Jessica L. Gloriant, and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Mears, of Fitchburg, Mass.
A sister, Gertrude Despault, predeceased her.
The funeral service for Mrs. Gloriant will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York.
A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.
