OGUNQUIT TRANSFER STATION PROCESS MOVES FORWARD

On Thursday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m., town officials opened bids submitted to build the new Ogunquit Transfer Station scheduled to break ground in the next few weeks. Proposed bids came from five companies with a low bid from H.E. Sargeant at $1,841,530 and a high bid from Bridge Corporation of $3,103,490. The bids will be reviewed by Don Goyette of Woodard & Curran before the town makes a final decision on who will build the facility, which is expected to be completed by next June. The town has bonded $2.4 million for the project. Ogunquit Museum of American Art Curator Michael Culver reports the second annual "Almost Labor Day" silent auction "really exceeded expectations, really achieved perfection" this year. Despite the Labor Day holiday weekend and driving winds that created whitecaps on the horizon as far as the eye could see, there was no shortage of labor for the Third Annual Ogunquit Beach Cleanup Day on Saturday, Sept. 2. Bossov Ballet Theatre's production of "The Red Shoes" will be performed at the Ogunquit Playhouse on Sept. 17 at 3 p.m., the culminating event of this year's Capriccio festival of the arts. Ogunquit Performing Arts will open the 2006-2007 Classic Film Series season with "That's Entertainment!" at the Dunaway Center on Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, at 7 pm.
