"That's Entertainment!" to open the 2006-2007 Classic Film Series

OGUNQUIT - Ogunquit Performing Arts will open the 2006-2007 Classic Film Series season with "That's Entertainment!" at the Dunaway Center on Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, at 7 pm.

There will be pre- and post-video discussions led by Norman Wilkinson of Ogunquit Performing Arts.

MGM marked its 50th anniversary of moviemaking with "That's Entertainment!" The film is an extravaganza bursting with musical sequences from 100 films - and the dazzling talent of 125 stars.

Stuart Nudelman, chairman of Ogunquit Performing Arts, invites all to "join us for this huge hit with lively foot-tapping songs and wonderful dance numbers. Never before, and probably never again, will so many stars appear in a single production! See you at the Dunaway Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Admission is free."

Judy Garland, Bing Crosby and James Stewart sing. Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Eleanor Powell and Clark Gable dance. Esther Williams swims. Mickey Rooney clowns. Trolleys clang, scarecrows talk and Parisians pirouette, all in a tribute to The Golden Age of Musicals.

Exuberant, nostalgic and timeless, modern movie audiences embraced it as enthusiastically as modern critics. It was one of the most surprising box office giants of recent times.

"That's Entertainment!" was produced by Daniel Melnick, additional music was adapted by Henry Mancini and it was narrated by Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli and many other well-known stars.
