YORK - Three people were injured in a head-on collision on Route 1 at the Lobster Barn just after 11 a.m. last Wednesday, Aug. 30.
One of those individuals, Barbara C. Ingals, 66, of Gilmanton, N.H., was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland following the crash. She was trapped in the car and was freed using the Jaws of Life.
The driver of the car in which she was riding, Linda Lou Butler, 65, of Rutherfordton, N.C., was admitted to York Hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle, 38-year-old Carl E. Hearin of Moody, was also taken to York Hospital, where he was treated and released.
There was no information available on the current condition of the two women hospitalized.
Police said Butler was headed northbound in her 2003 Toyota sedan and was attempting to make a left turn into the parking lot at the Lobster Barn restaurant while Hearin was southbound in the 2003 Ford pickup.
According to the accident report, Ingals turned into Hearin's path and he was unable to stop, hitting the Toyota head-on.
Those responding to the scene included York police, York Beach and York Village firefighters, ambulances and emergency personnel from the York and Ogunquit ambulance associations.
The accident remains under investigation.
Damage was estimated at $11,000 to the Toyota, $10,000 to the Ford.
