Currents in Education

The November statewide election may seem far away now, but as school officials noted in the past week, with such initiatives as the so-called Taxpayer Bill of Rights on the ballot, it is not too soon to begin getting up to speed on the issues. Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, recently announced the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) has begun its statewide selection process. The Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM), a member of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology and Maine's only public residential magnet chartered school, is hosting a visiting day for current high school freshmen and sophomores on Sept. 30. The Ogunquit Museum of American Art, through the sponsorship of Kennebunk Savings Bank, will once again offer free museum tours to area schools.
