Ogunquit Museum of American Art announces school tour program
OGUNQUIT - The Ogunquit Museum of American Art, through the sponsorship of Kennebunk Savings Bank, will once again offer free museum tours to area schools.Educators have long acknowledged the importance of the arts as part of the ongoing school curriculum, and students of all ages and from all disciplines can enjoy, profit and be enriched by a visit to an art museum.
In addition to works from the OMAA permanent collection both inside and throughout the sculpture gardens, current featured exhibitions are "The Figure in American Painting and Drawing, 1985-2005" and "The Prints of Peggy Bacon." OMAA officials note that there is some nudity in "The Figure in American Painting and Drawing, 1985-2005" exhibition, and teachers may want to preview the show before scheduling tours.
This year, the OMAA is fortunate to be able to extend the free-of-charge student program through Oct. 31.
To arrange a visit the museum during the month of October, call 646-4909 or e-mail ogunquitmuseum@aol.com.
Group reservations are required and every attempt will be made to accommodate each school based on space and the availability of tour guides.
The Ogunquit Museum of American Art, for over 50 years celebrating the nation's artistic heritage, past and present, is located at 543 Shore Road in Ogunquit.
