Hood ornaments stolen from local cars

YORK and OGUNQUIT - York police have received reports of a rash of incidents of vandalism to vehicles in the area between Norwood Farms Road and Sentry Hill in York Harbor.Over the past few weeks, hood ornaments and medallions on Mercedes and Volkswagen vehicles have been stolen.
York Police Sgt. Brian Curtin said bike patrols have been stepped up in the York Harbor area in hopes of curtailing the incidents.
Curtin said the ornaments and medallions are valued for their "bling" in rap groups and suspects the vandals are emulating the dress style of rap musicians by stealing the items.
Police indicated similar incidents in Ogunquit as well, although no details were available at press time.
