MARTIAL ARTS CHAMPION. Tyler Kawczynski, 10, of York, pictured on the left, placed second to current NAGA-ranked World Champion Christopher Colon (center) in the Dragon Lair XI Grappling Challenge held this past Saturday, Sept. 9, in Natick, Mass. Tyler has been practicing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) for only nine months and gave the champ a run for his money. Colon, 12, has been practicing Vale Tudo (Vale Tudo translates into "anything goes" in Brazilian Portuguese) for over six years and has a family history of martial arts experience. Tyler recently joined up with Team Renzo Gracie and represented the team and Defense Tactics Systems of Kittery in this tournament. Tyler is a student of Master Bob Denault of Defense Tactics Systems and is training to compete nationally in Mixed Martial Arts Competitions. Anyone interested in training in self-defense or for competition can contact Denault at his school on Route One in Kittery at 439-3200.
