YORK BEACH - With the final season over, and the reels ended from the final show, plans are now underway to sell the majority of the contents from the 78-year-old York Beach Cinema.

Troy Williams, who managed the theatre for the past two seasons, said the farewell show on Saturday, Sept. 2, was just what he hoped it would be.

"I was really excited to see that so many people in and around town came together to show their support for the cinema," Williams said on Wednesday, Sept. 6. "I'm pretty confident in saying that the majority of the audience didn't care that 'Pirates' was playing; they seemed to all come together for one last night in the cinema."

The show was standing-room only, with about 75 people who had to be turned away as the house was packed to capacity, Williams said.

"We are going to be selling the majority of the contents of the theatre to anyone interested," Williams said. "If anyone would like to purchase something, they should call me at 363-2573 and leave their information. We are not going to hold a public auction."

However, Williams said there are opportunities to view the items that remain at the cinema, and individuals who would like that opportunity should call the same number to leave their names, addresses and phone numbers.

"I want to thank everyone for coming together for one last show and for helping the cinema to end its 78-year run with a bang," Williams said.
