Convoy set for Oct. 1 to help children in Maine

YORK - Trucking for Kids Convoy, now in its ninth season, gives area residents, organizations and businesses a chance to head north to the Greater Portland area to have some fun while helping children right here in Maine.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 1, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Scarborough Downs, located just off Maine Turnpike Exit 42, is the location for this year's Trucking for Kids Convoy to help raise money for Camp Sunshine, which is a retreat for critically ill children and their families and the local D.A.R.E. & Officer Friendly Programs.

All money raised stays in Maine to help Maine kids.

The event is open to any and all size trucks, show cars and motorcycles. The pancake breakfast starts the day off at 7 a.m. followed by a driving skills competition, truck show judging and convoy, music, raffles, BBQ and awards ceremony.

Individuals and companies are urged to donate money to help the cause, and your organization can set up space at the event to promote your business to hundreds of people who will attend the full day's events.

The convoy route will start at Scarborough Downs and continue along Payne Road past the Maine Mall to Gorham Road and on to Westbrook Street, and then right onto Route 1 back to Scarborough Downs.
