$1.8 million Ogunquit Transfer Station bid awarded

By C. Ayn Douglass

OGUNQUIT - The Board of Selectmen accepted the lowest bid to build the new transfer station on Berwick Road.

The board accepted the bid from H.E. Sargent Corporation of Stillwater for $1,841,530 at its Wednesday, Sept. 20, meeting.

Five bids were submitted ranging from Sargent's low bid to a high bid by Bridge Corporation of $3,103,490.

Randy Tome, design consultant from Woodard and Curran in Portland, hired by the town to review the bids and specifications, said he was pleased by the excellent group of bidders on the project.

"The low bidder is very well known and I have no hesitation about recommending them," he said of H.E. Sargent Corporation.

Groundbreaking for the project is expected to occur in early October, with a completion date of summer, 2007.
