York traveled to Naples to take on Lake Region last Tuesday, Sept. 19, and came away with a 4-0 victory. Kortnee Cribby and Lauren Coupal had first half goals, and Michaela Franey and Coupal scored in the second as well.
Keeper Brittney Barrett had the clean sheet for York, who out shot the hosts 10-4. Said Barrett after the hard-fought game, "I would not have been anywhere without my defense."
York then traveled to Wells last Thursday, Sept. 21, for a rare night game under the lights. On a cold night, and playing on the rough surface of the Wells football field, the Wildcats held on for a hard fought 2-0 victory over the Warriors. York goals came from Coupal off a penalty in the first half, the assist going to Michaela Franey, and in the second half from Franey with the assist from Cribby.
The game remained close throughout and Caitlin Keating showed strong on defense, coming up with several big defensive plays.
"We really came together today and stepped it up," Keating said after the game. "Wells was stronger than we were, but we pulled through."
York came home to an easier game on Monday, Sept. 26, when the Wildcats hosted Gray-New Gloucester, rolling to an easy 6-1 victory in which they out shot the Patriots 11-1.
Franey had three first-half goals and Coupal added another for a 4-1 lead at the break, with Cribby adding the assist on all four. Megan Yorke made it 5-1 with the assist from Kirsten Weiner, and Coupal added one more with another assist to finish the day.
Up next for York, a trip to Cape Elizabeth today, Wednesday, Sept. 27.
