York Pee Wee Football evens up with Gorham

YORK - On Sunday, Sept. 24, the York Pee Wee Youth Football A squad defeated Gorham 6-0; however, the York B team fell to their hosts by a score of 20-8 to split the event in Southern Maine Youth Football League action.

In the A squad game, quarterback Thomas Kinton scored a touchdown against Gorham; however, York was not able to capitalize on the two point conversion attempt. Donald Goodrich led York's running game with 49 yards on the day, and Andrew LaMonica caught a 16-yard pass by Kinton. Ross Hogan gained 86 yards in two kickoff returns to help bring the York A squad twice to within a few yards of the Gorham goal line.

Defensively, Wesley Warner led the way with a pair of solo tackles and four assists, while Alex Janetti and John Cifrino tallied up five tackle assists each. The remaining York A squad defensive players combined for an additional 23 tackles against the hosting Gorham team.

In the initial game with York's B squad, Gorham scored three touchdowns against the York defenders, who scored just one touchdown with a run by Kevin McKenna. Jimmy Orso ran in the extra two point conversion for York. McKenna led the York offense with a total of 73 yards, and he also completed a surprise 13-yard pass play that was caught by Mark MacGlashing to end the first half.

Nick Moulton led York's defensive efforts with four solo tackles and three assists, with Austin Santoro assisting in four other tackles and Eli Loeffler helping to pull three other Gorham runners down. The remaining York B squad defensive players combined for an additional 26 tackles against Gorham's repeated drives.

The York Pee Wee A and B squads will play again Sunday, Oct. 1, when Somersworth, N.H., hosts York at 9 a.m.
