REMEMBERING THE RUNDLETTS. The memory of two longtime local volunteers often credited with exemplifying the spirit of the Nubble Lighthouse were honored on Wednesday, Sept. 20, along with the many who give of their time to keep the Sohier Park Welcome Center open and to support the preservation of York's own Cape Neddick Light Station. A plaque presentation was held at the Welcome Center Gift Shop at Sohier Park as part of the annual Welcome Center Volunteer Appreciation Cookout. A plaque honoring the memory of Henry Rundlett was presented by Joel Sherman, owner of Calef's Country Store, to Ed MacGorman, chairman of the Sohier Park Committee. The plaque will be displayed in the Welcome Center Gift Shop next to a plaque dedicated to Henry's wife, Verna Rundlett, also donated and presented by Sherman after Verna Rundlett's death. The Rundletts were principally responsible for establishing and maintaining the Gift Shop on Sohier Park and have been greatly exalted for their extraordinary work over many years, MacGorman noted. Sherman was a close friend of the Rundletts and, MacGorman said, "We greatly appreciate his most generous gift of the plaque." MacGorman's wife, Sally, was also present at the presentation.
